The East New Britain Provincial Government is dedicated to charting a robust course for economic development with a focus on two fundamental directions and corresponding economic strategies. Our developmental priorities are encapsulated within these two overarching objectives:

1. Economic Sector Expansion:
Our first direction centers on the expansion of various economic sectors, encompassing the following pivotal production activities:

  • Export-Oriented Agriculture: We place significant emphasis on the cultivation and production of high-demand export-oriented agricultural products, including Copra, Cocoa, Palm Oil, and Balsa.

  • Sustainable Tuna Fishing: Our commitment extends to the sustainable development of the Tuna Fishing industry in the Bismarck Waters, fostering both economic growth and responsible environmental stewardship.

  • Tourism Enrichment: We seek to harness the allure of our region’s natural beauty by strategically targeting cruise ship tourism. The East New Britain Province offers enticing attractions such as Water Relics and the pristine wonders of nature.

  • Marine-Based Tourism: Our marine ecosystems hold vast potential, and we are committed to promoting tourism activities that showcase the splendor of our marine nature.

2. Value-Adding Industries and Infrastructure Enhancement:
Our second direction revolves around enhancing processing industries that utilize locally sourced raw materials and elevating international tourism by augmenting infrastructure and supporting facilities. This entails:

  • Agro-Processing Ventures: We are dedicated to the establishment and growth of agro-processing industries, utilizing locally abundant commodities like Cocoa, Copra, Palm Oil, and Balsa.

  • Fisheries Processing Facilities: Our focus extends to the onshore processing of fisheries, optimizing the utilization of the abundant tuna catch from the Bismarck region.

  • Tourism Infrastructure Upgrades: To bolster our international tourism offerings, we are committed to upgrading key attractions and destinations. This includes investments in hotels, conference centers, and essential facilities such as restrooms and pedestrian-friendly streets for backpackers and tourists.

Spatial Development Strategies:
Our spatial development strategy takes into account the diverse facets of our province’s landscape and functionality, including:

  • Urban Centers: We recognize the hierarchical significance of our urban centers, ranging from primary to tertiary, each fulfilling distinct roles within our provincial framework.

  • Transportation Gateways: Our sea ports and airports serve as vital gateways for inter-regional transportation, facilitating the movement of people and goods.

  • Productive Lands: Our province boasts fertile agricultural and forestry production lands, alongside designated industrial parks, all contributing to our economic vitality.

  • Trunk Roads: An extensive network of trunk roads connects essential functions such as urban centers, primary gateways, and productive lands, ensuring seamless connectivity.

In conclusion, the East New Britain Provincial Government is dedicated to prudent and efficient utilization not only of our available lands and natural resources but also our existing transportation infrastructures and urban centers. This holistic approach seeks to optimize our province’s spatial structure and foster sustainable economic development for the benefit of our community and the region at large.
